About Chuck Pryor

I am a Berkeley-based garden designer, landscaper, stone collector, and artisan/craftsperson, currently in my “architectural salvage phase,” looking for folks who may have space in their home or on their land. Perhaps, as stewards of a bit of land, you are implementing a “permaculture/ sustainable / wabi sabi orientation.” Are you perhaps looking for capable, motivated, and like-minded folks to extend your community, assist with your projects, and help defray your monthly expenses?

I am looking to move up to the Sebastopol, Occidental, Forestville or West Marin area and would prefer something long-term--but also a ''landing strip” could work...

I am looking, initially, for a work exchange / partial rent situation ASAP. I have multiple relevant landscaping/environmental design skills that will create a mutually beneficial scenario. My favored situation would be a greenhouse, or some similarly unconventional open structure that I can re-purpose as a creative/alternative living/work space; however, “conventional” structures are welcome as well! I am also a stone bead fabricator and collector of unique “ethnographic epiphanies'' (see pictures!) and desire a small workshop space where I can do my stonework, under 20 square feet. The ideal amount of total space I would need would be around 500-800 SF total., but I AM FLEXIBLE!

I am 50, multifaceted, dependable, and a creative self-starter with both work and personal references.

Although I have found temporary places for plants and other materials, I would eventually like a home where I could place some garden infrastructure (stone and wrought iron), and some container plants, mostly succulents, but also small bamboos and ferns--mixed sun / shade would be ideal. I have an enormously creative color and design palette and specialize in non-funky improvisation. Think of a portable oasis, with wonderful little plant and stone vignettes. I have an inclination for environments that have a strong sense of what the Japanese call wabi sabi, and if you do as well, we could be a really good match. On the other pages of this blog are images of the garden that I formerly stewarded for the past nine years, where you can also gain some insight into who I am and what I am about.
